Prince Buyeong’s Death – The King:Eternal Monarch Episode 10

I fell asleep last night while waiting for episode 10 so I watched it very early today. That was mistake because now I feel so sad that I have IU’s “Blueming” on repeat for 30 minutes now. Episode 10 broke my heart. Applause to everyone involved in this drama. Let me give you a brief summary(spoiler) of last night’s episode.

Lee Gon’s attempt to capture Lee Rim failed miserably. Jo Eun-sup got hospitalized for taking a bullet for him and 2 civilians were injured. Lee Rim is possibly worried that Lee Gon found out too much although he doesn’t show it. He still looks so calm and collected. That’s why I was so surprise by what he did next. He wanted to break Lee Gon and decided to get rid of another person in his life – Prince Buyeong. I was already crying my eyes out at this point. At first I thought, “No, he’s too important.” but then they had his funeral. Before Prince Buyeong’s death, Lee Gon went to visit him and told him to enter the palace because he will be away to catch Lee Rim. Lee Gon also promised that he will take care of himself and told Prince Buyeong to take care of himself, too. Then he died just as he’s about to go to the palace.

This definitely hurt Lee Gon a lot and that might be the reason why he went to see Jung Tae-eul. Their meeting was so short and sad. The kiss made it even sadder. When Jung Tae-eul opened her eyes after the kiss, Lee Gon was gone. And she cried as the episode ends.

I have so many questions.

The second in line is dead, who will replace him? (Although, I still hope he’s alive. He’s a good person and very smart. It’s possible he took the opportunity and faked his death in order to catch Lee Rim.)

What’s next for Kang Sin-Jae? Lee Rim said that bringing him to the Republic of Korea was a mistake. Is he a friend or foe?

It was revealed that Luna is terminally ill. Is this real or just a hoax so that she would be released early? (I’m hoping she will be on Lee Gon’s side. With her help, I think it would be easier for Jung Tae-Eul to accept Lee Gon’s proposal and be his queen.)

We only have six more episodes left. I admit there are boring episodes but I think the remaining six will be packed with goodness. It should all go uphill now, shouldn’t it? The preview for next week shows Jung Tae-eul in the Kingdom of Corea and she looks like she’s injured and running for her life. I can’t wait for next week. I hope it comes sooner.

Review: Reply 1988

I’ve re-watched this drama a lot but still can’t get enough of it. Are you familiar with the Reply Series? There are three by the way – Reply 1997, Reply 1994 and Reply 1988. If you’re a “millennial” like me, you will definitely enjoy these three because of all the nostalgia.

The Reply Series genres are comedy and romance. I always have the same amount of laughs & tears on every re-watch. That’s how much I can relate to the series.

I’ve decided to blog about the series by year instead of release date. Reply 1988 is the last one to be released and in my opinion the one with the best plot. It’s such a tear-jerker and with enough comedy to keep the viewers interested.

Synopsis

Sung Duk-seon, Choi Taek, Kim Jung-hwan, Sung Sun-woo and Ryu Dong-ryong live in the same neighborhood in Seoul called Ssangmun-dong. They’re the best of friends who laugh, cry and experience first love together. Duk-seon is not the brightest but the friendliest of the bunch. Taek has the highest IQ but innocent and can be daft even with the simplest things. Jung-hwan hides his emotions very well but he’s the most caring of the bunch. Sun-woo, as described by Duk-seon, is the “normal” one among them as he is well-behaved, smart and a great son/brother. Dong-ryong has zero interest in academics but he’s great at giving advice about love and life in general. Just like Reply 1994 & 1997, the drama will make you guess who ends up with who. I will end the synopsis here to avoid spoiling it for you.

One thing that sets Reply 1988 apart from 1994 & 1997 is the family genre. All of them are basically family because of how heavily they rely on each other. Their sense of community is so strong that it made me wonder why it can no longer be observed today. The subplots that revolves around family issues are the ones to make you cry.

Another thing that sets it apart is “Satoori” or the regional dialect. Reply 1998 has less of if than the other two. 1997 & 1994 relied on satoori for comedy which works if you’re South Korean or at least familiar with the language.

I have no comments about the cast. They were all just right which I think is the beauty of it. Nobody really stood out because they all complement each other.

I give this drama a 10/10 because I love everything about it. I wouldn’t change a thing. This is not my favorite among the three by the way. Maybe because it’s not the first one I’ve seen. I’ll be posting a review of my fave “Reply 1994” soon. Thanks for reading!

REVIEW : Cheese in the trap

I have a really bad habit of watching popular dramas very late. I’ve heard of Cheese in the Trap a long time ago and I’ve read a lot of positive reviews about it. I wonder why I decided to watch it now. What I know is that I try to avoid mainstream because I get disappointed sometimes. What most people think is so good might not turn out to be the same for me. I hope the fans won’t take it against me but I will use “Love in the Moonlight” as an example because I got so bored with it I decided not to finish. I rarely give up shows even if they’re bad because I can always just skip through the boring parts but Love in the Moonlight was such a snorefest I couldn’t take it anymore. Anyway, let me tell you why I regret watching Cheese in the Trap four years late.

Synopsis:

Yoo Jung is a rich guy with a personality disorder (if you consider being petty a disorder lol). He secretly punishes those who wrong him by using any means but mostly by blackmail and manipulation. Most people know him as kind and sociable but Hong Seol kind of figured him out right away. Seeing that Seol was not fooled by his facade, Jung tried to give her a hard time. Seol got so scared of him she decided to take another break from the university. But Jung suddenly became interested in her and stopped her from leaving school.

Baek In-Ho and Yoo Jung grew up together and were best friends. The bad blood between them began when Jung’s scheme got In-Ho’s hand injured he couldn’t play piano anymore. In-Ho left home which means leaving behind his dreams and his only sister Baek In-Ha. When he returned to Seoul, he met Seol and became friends with her even though Jung told him to stay away.

Baek In-Ha is a spoiled brat who has been living off of Yoo Jung’s father’s money. She’s very materialistic and doesn’t care about other people but herself and her expensive bags. She’s in love with Yoo Jung that’s why he was able to use her for his schemes at times. Her life turned upside down when her financial support have been cut off because of Jung.

I found this drama refreshing because of the university setting. We mostly see dramas that are set in middle school or high school but in this drama we got a glimpse of university campus life in South Korea through Jung and Seol. It’s also not very common to have a protagonist with a villainous personality. One thing I’m disappointed about is that Jung was not able to change his personality in an impactful way by the end of the drama. Being in love with Seol only changed the way he treated her but didn’t change the way he treated other people. A lot of comments I’ve read say they were disappointed with the ending but for me it was only appropriate. Because I believe that love should have a positive effect in people which is not what happened to Seol and Jung. Seol was willing to accept everything about Jung but she couldn’t change him because he did what she wanted to do but couldn’t. Seol knew she was enabling Jeong but she couldn’t let go. Jung’s decision to leave was the best thing he ever did.

The second lead with the male lead personality, Baek In-Ho, is my favorite character in this drama. Seol had a positive impact on his life because she helped him find his lost dream. We’ve seen this on many dramas before and maybe that’s why this drama is so good because he’s only the second lead. He didn’t get the girl but he got to find his dream. Baek In-Ha, on the other hand, tried to hold on to her old life until the very end but you will see why she’s as crazy as she is as the story goes on. Her past is not an excuse for how she is but it gives an explanation and it made me sympathize with her character.

I give this drama a 9.5/10 score for the plot and for the cast. Whenever I watch a movie or drama I always get sucked into the story, not into the visual of the cast or camera work or editing. I also look into what I can learn from it. If you haven’t seen this drama yet, I recommend you start now. Maybe you’ll like it, too.

The King : Eternal Monarch Review of the First Four Episodes

Did your heart skip a beat when you found out that Lee Min Ho accepted a new drama? Mine, too! It’s been a while and we’ve all been waiting impatiently for his comeback so now that it’s here I’ve decided to share my thoughts with you guys!

First, what an amazing cast! I’m not familiar with most of them but everybody’s doing a great job so far. Lee Min Ho’s performance make it seem like he didn’t take a long break. And Kim Go Eun’s charisma overflows as she portrays the role of a tough detective on this drama.

Fantasy is a genre that I really enjoy because there are a lot of possibilities if you have enough imagination. This drama is set on parallel universe – Kingdom of Corea & Republic of Korea. I’m getting sick of all the time travel so this plot is refreshing to me. But based on the first episode, it’s possible that there’s also time travelling included on this drama. We’ll find out soon enough.

Let me give you a quick recap on what happened so far.

On episode 1, we found out that a magical flute connects the parallel universe. Lee Rim killed his half-brother, the King, to get his hands on this flute. Lee Gon cut the flute in half with the King’s sword while trying to protect himself. Lee Rim was about to murder Lee Gon when a mysterious person wearing a mask showed up and saved him. The mysterious person dropped an ID issued on November 11, 2019 to Lieutenant Jeung Tae Eul. Lee Gon became king and he’s been looking for the mysterious person’s identity but unsuccessful for years. Until one day, fate brought him to the portal that allowed him to enter the parallel universe.

On episode 2, Lee Gon quickly realized that he’s no longer in his kingdom but happy to finally meet Lieutenant Jeung Tae Eul in person. Tae Eul was incredulous when Lee Gon told her the truth and she arrested him instead. She tried to find his identity but he’s nowhere on the database and had to release him. Lee Gon kept telling Tae Eul the truth but of course she still doesn’t believe him, so he offered to make her the queen.

On episode 3, the kingdom continued to cover up Lee Gon’s disappearance. Tae Eul dismissed Lee Gon’s offer to be his queen as one of his lies. This time, she asks for proof. Lee Gon brought her to the portal but since he didn’t bring the flute with him, the portal did not appear.

On episode 4, Lee Gon decided to go back to his kingdom since he has been absent for so long. Tae Eul, still not believing his stories, was surprised to know that he was actually gone. Back in his kingdom, Lee Gon went on with his activities while still covering up the fact that he left the palace. Tae Eul keeps getting evidence to support Lee Gon’s stories. The last piece of evidence that Lee Gon was telling the truth was when she got her new ID dated November 11, 2019. Lee Gon escaped from his palace and went back to see Tae Eul and offered to take her back with him to prove that he wasn’t lying. Tae Eul agreed and was shocked when she finally arrived on the Kingdom of Corea.

I can’t wait for the next episode! This is not the next DOTS or CLOY in my opinion but the story has a lot of potential. You know it’s a great story when you can’t guess what’s going to happen next. Are you watching this drama, too?

Tanya casts a spell on Arthdal – Arthdal Chronicles Episode 18 Recap

Taealha breaks the news of Mihol’s death to Hae Tuak and Yeobi and even reveals that she did it herself.

Tagon hides Taealha’s pregnancy from Saya, however, Saya senses that something went wrong.

Tagon seems to be unfazed by the brewing rebellion and by the news that Ago tribe released slaves. Mubaek deduces that Tagon already thought of a solution.

Daedae is worried that Arthdal might fall if things continue this way. Tagon asks Daedae to think why he sent Red Claw to spy on Ago tribe and Dae Dae seems to have realized something. Tagon says that a storm will be subdued by a bigger storm.

Tagon thinks about his unborn child and thought “The little Aramun will continue the god’s bloodline. It will continue my bloodline,” while Taealha vows to continue her father’s mission and promises to accomplish it. (They have different dreams now.)

Nunbyeol wants to become a full Neanthal again begs Chaeeun to reconnect her lineages. Nunbyeol wants revenge against Tagon and Taealha and she know Chaeeun wants it too.

Eunseom tells the slaves that they can go home but they doubt his words. They expect he wants something in return. Eunseom then reveals that if they’re from Ago Tribe they should (1) go home and (2) free the slaves just like he did. They couldn’t believe he doesn’t want anything else. Eunseom reiterates that he wants everyone to go back to their clans and spread the word.

“He who lowers himself despite knowing his sublimity. He who protects darkness despite knowing his brilliance. He who endures indignity despite knowing his dignity. Tell everyone of the second coming of Inaishingi, the one the God of Waterfall spat out.”

The Chief of Myo clan vouches for Eunseom and declares him second coming of Inaishingi. The Chief continues to say that he is hosting a meeting and calls on all the leaders of each clan to come before Inaishingi just like they did hundreds of years ago.

Dachi and Nima (the slaves Eunseom freed) return to Tae clan and relays the message from Inaishingi.

In the Fortress of Fire, Tagon arrives at Miho’s funeral. Taealha remembers the Fruit of Hae Detu – a sword made of pure steel – but they have no idea who did it. (It’s most likely Yeolson.)

Tagon apologizes to Taealha but she asks what he is sorry for. (She always addresses him informally but for the first time she addressed him formally. Probably to build a wall between them.) Tagon says he’s sorry for making her give the news about her pregnancy in anger instead of joy. Taealha asks Tagon that he should be sorry for doing things without telling her. Tagon says that a King should not say sorry for using his authority.

Taealha apologizes for getting pregnant but Tagon says he wants her and the child and asks her to marry him. Tagon agrees to Taealha’s demands: (1) she will not share the secret of the bronze; (2) Tagon will share his power. Tagon knows that if he breaks his promise, Taealha will kill him and their child. Taelha says she will send Hae Heullip because wants to know how they will divide power and wealth before they get married and Tagon agrees again.

Taealha thinks that a marriage proposal during her father’s funeral fits their personalities. Both of them met while hating their fathers and both of them killed their own fathers. Taealha says, “We’re probably meant to be together, don’t you think?” before leaving. (They’re a match made in heaven indeed. What used to be love is now replaced with hate and greed.)

Tagon orders Saya to secretly find the secret of the Bronze.

Taealha tells Hae Tuak that she learned some things can’t be shared and you’re left with two choices – will you give it up or will you make it yours? Taealha says:

“I, Taealha, will make it mine.”

Taealha meets with Asa Sakan and the latter deduces she needs something from her. She holds Taealha and gazes at her and seems to see God’s will.

Saya is getting anxious of all the secrets people are keeping from him. He finds out from Myung Jin (Tanya’s assistant) that Tanya cried a lot after speaking to Doti and Sucheon.

In the room of fire, Tanya quietly cries and looks back at what she found out from Sucheon – Wahans were sold as slaves because Moongtae betrayed them; Teodae took his life in front of Eunseom; Eunseom escapes from the mine. (That’s too much for one day! No wonder she cried tons.) Tanya answers Yangcha’s unspoken question (She can read his mind) and says,

“Why am I crying, you ask? People usually cry when they’re in distress or when they can feel other’s pain. But I guess you can also cry when you’re brimming with dogged determination. I just learned that today.”

Saya tells Tanya to make up a new name for the people of the Union but Tanya thinks creating a nation is a bad thing because it can go and attack other countries or trample on its own people.

Saya changes the subject tries to uncover Tanya’s secrets and lies but Tanya gets frustrated and tells him to stop.

Yangcha escorts Tanya to Geungseok workshop where slave kids are shaping stones while shackled and getting whipped. Tanya forbids the manager to shackle the kids from now on and orders him to feed them three times a day. Then Tanya herself went and gently put the shoes in the child’s feet. The child thanks her for giving them hope and they start crying.

Tanya feels thankful and sorry to the slave kids. They’re her hope but they could be put in danger because of her.

Yangcha wonders why Tanya did something so unnecessary. Tanya once again hears his thoughts and tells him it’s not unnecessary because those kids will run around the market telling everyone of her kindness. And there’s nothing more important than that.

Saya decides to find answers to his own question. Saya finds out that – Chaeeun sent Sucheon to Doldambul even before Tanya became High Priestess; Yeonbal seeing his look-alike in Doldambul; the Wahan slaves escaped Doldambul; Mubaek, and only Mubaek, saw how Eunseom fell down the river.

Sul Clan and Tae Clan arrive for the meeting but chief’s started throwing blame to each other and left the meeting. Eunseom speaks to Tae Clan and tells them that though it’s true that he survived the waterfall, he himself is not sure if he’s Inaishingi or not. He declares that if he’s Inaishingi, Apdok will die by sunrise. If not, then he, Eunseom, will die by sunrise. Eunseom’s decision was met with a lot of opposition but bets his everything on Ipsaeng’s words. (Ipsaeng doesn’t remember the words himself. LOL.)

Saya blackmails Mubaek that he will kill the Wahans he captured if Mubaek doesn’t reveal their secret. During the parade, Mubaek tells Saya that Eunseom is alive and that they’re benetbots(twins). Tanya seems to have heard it or read Saya’s mind. (I think Saya felt betrayed. He was definitely hurt by what he found out.)

Tanya crowns Tagon as King.

Tae Clan arrives and presents Apdok’s head to Eunseom and chooses him as Inaishingi. Ipsaeng finally remembers what he said to Eunseom. “If you fail to respond to the aspirations of 30,000 people, you will be dead meat.” Ipsaeng is amazed that Eunseom managed to kill Apdok just by saying a few words. Eunseom accepts the Tae clan and declares that he is now Inaishingi.

Tanya, with her words, removes tribalism and gives everyone a new name – “baeksong” which means subjects. (If you’ve seen a sageuk then you’ll be familiar with this word.) But in her mind, Tanya casts a spell:

“I, Tanya of Wahan, cast a spell on all of Arthdal. You may begin in this world in lowest social status but you can become anything. My fate is now entwined with yours. I hope you provide support as long as I protect you. My subjects.”

Tagon gives his first royal order – conquer the Ago Tribe – exactly what Tanya was worried about.

Suhana is Red Claw and she sends a message to Tagon reporting that Inaishingi will be Arthdal’s biggest enemy.

************************************

Suhana being red claw might be a big blow to Eunseom but I can’t help but think otherwise because she had a significant role in bringing Tae clan to Eunseom. Suhana used to encourage Apdok to meet with the other tribe leaders for peace and she’s the one who told him to go to Myo’s territory to meet Eunseom.

Will Tanya’s plan work? We now know that Tanya’s curses and spells are effective so I’m really curious of what’s next.

Taealha and Tagon’s love/hate relationship is also an amazing plot twist. But I think they will find their love for each other in the end.

Seriously though, when are they ALL going to meet? I’m not even sure yet if there’s a next season. But surely, they will not leave the viewers hanging? With so many cliffhangers, I will go crazy if the show just ends this way.

Hae Ri Investigates the Plane Crash – Vagabond Episode 2 Recap

Jerome opens the tattoo on his chest with a knife. He took out a small metal then flushes it. He remembers Dal Gun who chased him.

In the hotel, the bereaved families are losing their patience. When Edward Park (Chief negotiator of Dynamic System) arrives, they start attacking him. Edward Park tells them that Dynamic Systems asked him to settle with the families at the lowest cost. He encourages them to be angry and fight with him against Dynamic System. He says he also lost his family in a plane crash.

Dal Gun arrives and tells everyone that someone survived the plane crash. He tells them that the plane crash was an act of terrorism which surprises everyone. Dal Gun asks Hae Ri if he remembers the guy he was chasing at the airport. Dal Gun shows Hae Ri Hoon’s video but she can’t remember him.

They went to the airport to check the CCTV videos but they see another guy on the recordings. The other family members no longer believe him and ask him to stop. Dal Gun claims that the CCTV was tampered with but no one believes him.

Busra gives Jerome information on Dal Gun and he’s surprised to know that Dal Gun is just a stuntman. Jerome disobeys his orders to go home and decides he’s not leaving until he restores his honor. He sends a message to someone and got a response that says “the earth revolves on its axis.”

Dal Gun downloads Hoon’s video and saves it to a USB. He puts his computer inside a safe in his hotel room and leaves. A mysterious guy enters his room and tries to open the safe.

Dal Gun goes to Hae Ri’s house and tries to climb her window when she didn’t respond. Hae Ri points a gun behind his head and Dal Gun starts to doubt her. Dal Gun takes the gun away and asks Hae Ri where Jerome is because he thinks she’s working with the terrorists. Dal Gun ties her up and starts to look around her apartment. Hae Ri reminds Dal Gun that he’s committing a lot of crimes. Dal Gun finds her fake passports and NIS ID. She reveals she’s working for NIS and asks Dal Gun to release her but he said he’s seen a lot of the same IDs in movie sets. A call comes in and Hae Ri asks Dal Gun not to take it or she’ll be fired. Dal Gun answers it and lets her talk. The call is from her boss, Min Jae Sik, telling her to stay in Morocco until further notice. Dal Gun releases her now that he’s confirmed her identity. Once released, Hae Ri slaps Dal Gun so hard he turned his head.

Jerome arrives outside Hae Ri’s apartment.

Dal Gun gives Hae Ri the video and asks her to look into it. Dal Gun holds her responsible too and asks for her help.

Outside the apartment, Dal Gun notices Jerome’s car but Jerome drives away before he could check it. Inside the apartment, Hae Ri watches the video but finds it hard to continue after seeing the kids. He blames Dal Gun for making her feel guilty. She continues to watch the video and notices the man (Jerome) talking to someone on the phone. She calls a fellow NIS, Hwa Sook, and asks her to check if she can find out what the conversation is about. Hwa Sook saves the video in a USB.

In the Blue House the President is in a bad mood because the Minister of National Defense insists on purchasing Dynamic’s F70 instead of the Eagle Fighter which is currently against public opinion. The Chief Secretary asks the Minister if he can handle public opposition but the Minister says they can’t be hasty in such a long-term project. As they start to bicker, the President stops them and reminds them that since they’re using the citizens’ money, their decision on spending it must make the citizens happy. The Minister urges the President to make the right decision before leaving.

The Presidents is upset of the Minister for telling him what to do in such a crude way. The Prime Minister laughs at him and blames him because he appointed the Minister himself. The President wonders how to make the Minister go to his side. He can’t fire him because the timing is bad. They play baduk to clear his head.

In a press conference, the Dynamic System’s team declines to give an official statement until the investigation results are out, while Jessica publicly attacks them for creating a plane with malfunctioning avionics.

Kang Ju Cheol (NIS Chief) takes a call from Hae Ri asking access to the plane’s blackbox. At first he declines but Hae Ri reminds him that she went to Lisbon for him. Apparently, Hae Ri went to Lisbon on his request to check on his dear friend, Michael. (Now we know Hae Ri didn’t kill him since she only went to check how he died.) Kang Ju Cheol finds it weird that Michael committed suicide because he’s not suicidal.

Kang Ju Cheol approaches Jessica and asks her why Michael committed suicide. Jessica reveals that Michael had trouble with one of his lady friends but didn’t tell him who it was.

At the airport, Hae Ri helps the families that are about to go back to Korea. Jerome overhears that Dal Gun decided to stay to try and locate the terrorist.

Back at the hotel, Dal Gun finds Hoon’s videos have been deleted. He rushes back to his room and finds it trashed and his safe open. He sees a man running away and tries to catch him but the man is riding a bike. Dal Gun remembers the utility guy and chases after him. The police arrive and capture them both.

At NIS, Hwa Sook works with another staff to get the audio on Hoon’s video. They were able to listen to it but it’s in Spanish. Since they both don’t speak Spanish she sends the transcript to Hae Ri via text.

Kim Ho Sik (Hae Ri’s colleague at the embassy) tells her that Dal Gun is in police custody. When they left, Jerome enters Hae Ri’s apartment and finds Hoon’s video in her laptop.

At the police station, Dal Gun remembers the day he picked up Hoon at the orphanage. Hoon refused to speak to anyone and the orphanage was closing down soon so they asked Dal Gun to take him. He had no choice but to do so. Dal Gun said that he will find Hoon’s mom but Hoon responded that she abandoned him. Hoon said, “Will you abandon me too, uncle? If you’re going to, then do it now.” Dal Gun said that you don’t just abandon family like a piece of junk. The two eventually became close and continued to live together.

Hae Ri and Ho Sik translates for Dal Gun during the interrogation. Dal Gun continues to accuse the utility man as an accomplice of the terrorist but the man continues to deny it. Dal Gun loses his temper when the police released the utility man. Dal Gun manages to grab a pen and threatens to kill the utility man if he doesn’t confess that he’s working with the terrorist. The police threaten to shoot him if he doesn’t let go but Hae Ri throws herself between them. Not wanting Hae Ri to get hurt, Dal Gun surrenders.

Jerome is still at Hae Ri’s apartment but luckily she didn’t go in because she can’t get Dal Gun’s words out of her head. She meets with Kevin Kim instead who shows her the black box. She hears Kim Woo Gi’s (co-pilot) phone conversation and was able to match it with Jerome’s.

Dal Gun is released because Ho Sik bribed the police. Ho Sik asks Dal Gun to pay the 1500 Euros back.

Hae Ri concludes that the plane crash was an act of terrorism.

In a flash back, Hae Ri was being interviewed by Kang Joo Cheol. He asked her why she wants to join the NIS and she responded by sharing that her father passed away after saving eight people in the Marine Corps. Kang Joo Cheol said the story was boring but continues to say that he’s one of the eight man Hae Ri’s father had saved. Thinking that this is her opportunity, she told him more stories of her hardships so he would hire her. But he just leaves.

This drama is off to a good start! I heard the ratings are going up in Korea as well. Lee Seung gi, Bae Suzy – fighting!

Can’t wait for the next episode!!!

The Return of Inaishingi! – Arthdal Chronicles Episode 17 Recap

Momo tribe rejoices to have repaid their debt while Eunseom is still disoriented after the fall. Dalsae rushes to him giving him a hug and tells Eunseom that he’s alive and it’s not a dream. Badoru joins them and they happily embraced each other.

Eunseom thanks Xabara for saving his life. Xabara tells him that they have been untwined (their fate previously intertwined/joined when Eunseom saved Xabara’s child have now been separated because she saved his life). Xabara asks Eunseom what he plans to do now. Eunseom says he will have to go save Ipsaeng. They try to explain to him that since he survived the waterfall he will become someone else. Xabara offers for Eunseom to go with them if he doesn’t want any of that. But Eunseom insists that he must save his friend. Xabara tells him that if Eunseom runs away he will be welcome to join Momo tribe as a guest. She says “All the water in the world is our home.”

Tachoogan, who is skeptical about Eunseom, tells his clan members that they’ve lost their minds. He wants to prove that Ipsaeng lied about Inaishingi so he let him go on purpose. Ipsaeng takes the chance to run away but was caught by Tachoogan. Ipsaeng tells Tachoogan it’s okay for him to die there because everyone will end up like him. Everyone will die in the hands of their own tribe so he will just wait for them in the after world. It enrages Tachoogan but it made the others reflect on themselves. Miroosol asks “Why did we let him fool us? Because we want it so much. We believes because we desperately want to change. We want to get out of this situation at all costs. Everyone in the Ago Tribe is desperate at the moment.” Tachoogan tells them to stop having unrealistic hope and says that Inaishingi will not come and save them. But then Eunseom arrives and picks up the sickle.

All of Myo clan was surprised of Eunseom’s return but he just wants to take Ipsaeng and go. Eunseom tells the clan that Inaishigi or whatnot, he thinks what their doing (turning against their own tribe) is not just wrong but also stupid. Even Ipsaeng who thought he was never coming back believes he’s Inaishingi. (He’s Ago Tribe after all.) Myo clan rejoices of Inaishingi’s return and even Tachoogan is dumbstruck.

Eunseom is ushered inside the tent with the clan elders. The chief says that he’s the only one to survive the waterfall after 1000 years, so he asks Eunseom to lead them. Eunseom denies it and reveals that someone helped him. The elder tells him that it doesn’t matter because they don’t even know if Inaishingi himself got help. The fact that someone risked his/her life for Eunseom in this cruel and cold world and surviving the waterfall with help or not is impossible without heaven’s will. The elder tells him he’s fully qualified. Eunseom still doesn’t want to believe it and was about to reveal that he lied about the dream when Tachoogan stopped him and dragged him outside. Tachoogan shows him the Myo Clan warriors who are gearing up to retrieve the slaves just like Eunseom asked. Tachoogan makes Eunseom realize the weight of his words and tells him it doesn’t matter whether he had the dream or not. Tachoogan says “Now, you are Inaishingi no matter what. Don’t you dare deny it. You are Inaishingi.”

Eunseom talks to Ipsaeng in private to ask him what to do. Ipsaeng tells him he can’t leave. Eunseom blames Ipsaeng for lying but Ipsaeng says Eunseom is the one who told everyone to save and help the other clan. Ipsaeng tells Eunseom that everyone is willing to risk their lives for him and calls him crazy for wanting to run away. (Now he has moral standards? Is the real Ipsaeng starting to come back?) Ipsaeng even uses Eunseom’s own words at him and says “I’m sure that is not how they taught you in Iark.” Eunseom says that he need to save the Wahans and Tanya. Ipsaeng reminds him that his goal is to fight against Arthdal itself and that he needs subordinates. By being Inaishingi, he will have 30,000 people from Ago tribe at his feet. (You tell him Ipsaeng.) Eunseom reveals what’s really worrying him, the truth is he’s scared of being responsible for 30,000 lives. Ipsaeng tells him that’s not what he should be scared for, “If you fail to respond to the aspirations of 30,000 people, you will be dead meat.”

Eunseom talks to Dalsae next to tell him that he can’t rescue the Wahans now. Dalsae tells him that the Wahan Tribe no longer exists. Everyone’s selfish and thinks of their friends as nuisance so they betray them, desert them and eventually kill them. In Arthdal everyone thinks the same. The strong stomp all over the weak so the weak are terrified. And those who are frightened betray their people, run away, and desert their tribe. Together they remember Mother Choseol’s words on their first day of hunting “If everyone is frightened, we are not cowards. It’s just that your opponent is too strong. At such times, you have two options. If you’re going to fight, do it together. And if you’re going to run away, flee quietly.” Dalsae thinks that maybe Ago Tribe wants to fight too but they can’t do it themselves. Dalsae believes Eunseom can do a good job and all he needs to do is play the role they want him to play. If Eunseom is Wahan’s dream, he just needs to become the dream of even more people and nothing will change.

Eunseom goes back to camp and a child approaches him. The child offers him her father’s clothes and sword. She asks her to rescue all their people. Eunseom accepts it and seems to have made a decision.

In Arthdal, Tagon arrives at the market and his warriors tell the people to bow on their knees in his presence. Mubaek thinks back on what he found out – Tagon killed Asa Ron without trial and Harim is murdered for saving Tagon’s life. He wonders what Tagon plans on doing. At the same time, Saya wonders about what Mubaek told Tanya – about the mirror, the sword and the bell.

The parade was halted when a shaman from Bato Tribe calls Tagon out. She curses him, “I curse you in the name of our great hunting god, Mihaje. Mihaje’s arrow will blind and deafen you. Your tongue will get stuck, so you won’t be able to scream as you’re dying.” Tagon responds and tells the shaman that Mihaje can’t curse a living god. The shaman continues to curse him, “You will be destroyed by what you were planning to destroy. The things that you overlooked will attack you!” She asks Airuju to allow harm to befall Tagon then kills herself with a knife on the heart. (In fantasy dramas that I’ve seen, nothing is more powerful than blood curses like this.)

Mihol and Taealha gives Tagon a tour of their library. Tagon asks if Mihol think that he, Tagon, owns everything under the sky. Mihol agrees and Tagon says he better thinks so for the good of both of them and Arthdal.

Mihol doubts Tagon’s promise of keeping the bronze secret and even Taealha is starting to doubt. In a private meeting, Saya tells Tagon that the first thing he must do become King is to get rid of tribalism and by calling Arthdal a nation. Taealha grabs Saya’s hand and touches his hair in a seemingly adoring manner. But then she grabs his chin the Hae Tribe way (Hae Mihol used to grab Taealha’s chin to show dominance) and tells Tagon that they have everything they need in Saya. She wants Tagon to remember that Saya is the fruit of her hard work. She leaves the meeting with the excuse of attending to her responsibilities as the head of Hae Tribe. After she left, Saya asks Tagon if he plans to leave the secret of the Bronze as it is and tells Mubaek that his army and the Daekan warriors will be leading the uprising. Tagon thinks hard about Saya’s plan.

Mihol tells Taealha that Tagon doesn’t plan on keeping his promise but Taelha shoots it down. He gives her a lecture about entrusting their fate to the hands of the heart of the people. Mihol thinks that Taealha changed because she put her trust in one man. Taealha tries to ignore him because his words seem to get to her. Mihol asks her if Tagon will risk his life for her just like she did for Tagon. Taealha is still in denial and tells him to stop. Mihol says he knows what a real king is and he believes that Tagon already knows what it is to be king. He says “Tagon will not share.” Not with Taealha nor with anyone else.

Tagon health deteriorates which worries Saya.

Yeonbal reports to Tagon but he was surprised to see Saya. Tagon introduces Saya as his son. Saya wonders why Yeonbal looked at him that way. Yeonbal tells Gitoha that Saya looks like Eunseom. Gitoha warns him about saying such things or he will be in trouble.

Tagon is too weak to continue with the meetings so he asks for a break. Daedae wants to read a report from Red Claw about Ago Tribe but Tagon dismisses it. (This report might be about Eunseom.) Saya overhears Gitoha and Yoeonbal’s conversation that he looks like the igutu in Doldambul. Tagon collapses on his way back to his bedchamber.

People starts believing that Tagon’s curse is coming true. Saya tends to Tagon’s wound.

Doldambul is under new management but they’re in for a rough night because Eunseom arrived with his cavalry and they start freeing the slaves.

Tanya finds out that the Wahan’s sent to Doldambul was not brought in because of the riot. Tanya makes herself believe that Eunseom is still alive. She arrives at the room of fire and finds Taealha there. Tanya senses something different from her. Taealha asks her why she wants power to which Tanya responds that no one knows what will happen because she’s dispensable and alone. Taealha realizes that even Tanya doesn’t trust people. Hae Tuak arrives and tells Taealha that Tagon collapsed.

Tagon covers up his wound when Taealha arrives and pretends he’s fine. Taealha tells him that rumors already spread that he’s being punished by Mihaje. Tagon declines Taealha’s help and decides to do something careless. Saya and Taealha tries to stop him since it’s too early and too dangerous. Tagon arrives at the market and finds people on their knees praying to the statue of Mihaje. In a fit of rage, Tagon destroys the the statue and tells his people to get rid of Mihaje’s statues and shrines.

Taealha thinks Tagon changed too and he starts to believe her father’s words. Taealha tells Hae Tuak to bring the woman who makes hallucinogen.

After Tagon’s persuasion, Saya treats Tagon’s wound himself. Tagon collapses in the process. When he wakes up, he finds Saya asleep on the floor and he covers Saya with a blanket. (The first fatherly gesture he ever did.) Saya wakes up and was surprised to see the blanket. Tagon tells Saya that he’s made his decision to own the secret of the Bronze. Like a good soldier, Saya goes right away to carry out his orders.

Mihol was summoned to meet with Tagon but was surprised to see Saya instead. He was brought inside a torture chamber.

Taealha confronts Tagon and he reveals to her that he asked Saya to question Mihol about the secret of the Bronze. Taealha asks him why he didn’t tell her but Tagon says that a king who doesn’t own everything will die. And what if Mihol dies without passing the knowledge on to someone. Tagon tells her that he can’t ask her to torture her own father even though she hates him. Taealha seems to have made up her mind. She agrees to Tagon’s plans and volunteers to get the information from her father.

In the torture chamber, Mihol’s lips are still sealed and Saya keeps on threatening him with more pain. Taealha arrives and orders everyone out. Mihol condemns his daughter for going along with Tagon’s plans. Mihol says that if she truly thinks of herself as the head of the tribe she should kill him before he spills the secret. Taealha reveals that she brought a bichwisan (poison) not a hallucinogen. Mihol seemed relieved but Taealha apologizes to him for what she’s about to do. Taealha pledges to get revenge and urges him to tell her the secret of the bronze. Mihol tells her to go to the Great Gochiju Rock to find the symbol of the people who caused their tribe to collapse. Taealha vows to take over the Hae tribe’s mission.

Tagon arrives and was surprised to see Saya and Gitoha outside the torture chamber. They force the door open but they were too late. Mihol already took the bichwisan and dies. Taealha kills the woman who knows how to make the hallucinogen . Taealha tells Tagon that she threw away all the hallucinogen and killed that only person who knows how to make it. And she’s the only one who knows the secret of the bronze.

Taealha blames Tagon for what she did saying he started it. She helped her become king but he went behind her back and conspired with Saya. Tagon threatens to torture Taealha but she laughs it off. She whispers in his ears so that no one else would hear, “You should be happy. I’m pregnant with your baby. I’m pregnant with Aramun’s baby. There’s a god growing inside me.”

***********************************

I believe the curse on Tagon will all come true. He made a grave mistake by making Taealha his enemy.

It was mentioned before that Inaishingi is the only one who could challenge Aramun in the past. If Eunseom is Inaishingi then someone else might be Aramun. Kanmoreu (Aramun’s horse) even left his side because he found him weak. But we can’t ignore the fact that Asa Hon (Eunseom & Saya’s mother who had divine powers) thought Eunseom was Aramun and that Tanya(descendant of Asa Sin) found Eunseom.

If Saya is Aramun and Eunseom Inaishingi then can we expect a 360 degree turn is their characters? Maybe Saya will find the good in his heart with Tanya’s help and Eunseom might experience too much loss and cruelty that he becomes evil.

Either way, I’m super excited for what’s next.

I have to say, this drama started super slow that I remember finding myself dozing off on two or more episodes. But now I’m intrigued with the story. I hope more people will realize that and starts watching.

Let’s Be Friends! – When the Camellia Blooms Episode 1 Recap

The Good, the Bad and the Cheap

Yong Sik lifts the white sheet off of the dead body and cries. The investigators find a note, “I told you 15 years ago not to be a joke.”

Yong Sik follows Dong Baek while pretending to be on patrol. Dong Baek once again finds him strange. She asks him how he got Mr. No’s wallet and hopes he didn’t take it by force. He remind her he’s a cop. (But that’s exactly what happened!)

At the precinct, Yong Sik eats his cup ramen and ignores Mr. No’s rant. Mr. No threatens to sue him but Captain Byun tries to calm him down.

Hyang Mi asks Dong Baek who Pil Gu’s father is. Dong Baek smiles at her straightforward question since she’s the first one who asked her directly. Hyang Mi continues to ask her why Dong Baek doesn’t ask the father to pay for Pil Gu’s academy and if she still meets with him. Dong Baek says she can see him when she wants to.

Captain Byun tries to convince Yong Sik to be more understanding of Mr. No. He tells him that he likes to act as a leader and to flaunt his wealth or connections around town because he lives with a know-it-all (his wife). Captain Byun asks Yong Sik to just play along with it and encourages him to be flexible.

Dong Baek asks Pil Gu if he’s curious about his father and she was surprised that he isn’t very curious to know. He asks her the difference between never owning a video game and having one taken away. He thinks he’ll go crazy if his video game is taken away. But if he never owned one he wouldn’t be too upset. He thinks his situation is better never knowing his father than having had a father who was taken away.

Yong Sik apologizes to Mr. No. However, he loses it when Mr. No starts talking bad about Dong Baek. Yong Sik tells him he has no right to talk bad about her and that if he was her guardian Mr. No would be dead already.

Deok Soon catches Pil Gu playing video games and forces him to eat. (Really not a punishment but I find the relationship very sweet.) Seung Yeob tries to flirt with Helena but she just ignores him. Deok Soon stops him and asks him to teach Yong Sik to date instead. Seung Yeob tells her that Yong Sik might be in a relationship with a lawyer. Yong Sik arrives so she asks him if he’s seeing someone but he doesn’t answer. Yong Sik got curious about Pil Gu.

The neighborhood ahjummas start gossiping about Dong Baek again and blames her for almost every concerns in the neighborhood. Chan Sook sees her husband’s credit card bill and was surprised to see he went to Camellia. Chan Sook confronts Dong Baek and asks her for a refund but Deok Soon arrives and defends her. Dong Baek was happy and grateful that she has an influential friend. Deok Soon gives Dong Baek some kimchi and says she would love to marry her off to one of her sons. Dong Baek mentions her third son (she doesn’t know it was Yong Sik) but she seemed to flustered at the idea. (Maybe she doesn’t think that highly of her to allow her to marry her beloved son.)

Yong Sik witnesses a fight between the kids. Pil Gu tells his friends to stop calling his mom Dong Baek and to address her respectfully. The kids look down on Pil Gu’s mom because she owns a bar. Yong Sik remembers his young self on Pil Gu and start to stop the fight but unintentionally scares them and makes them cry. Scared they might tell their parents, he bought them snacks instead. Pil Gu tries to go to the academy but Yong Sik stops him by buying a LOT of arcade coins.

Dong Baek got a call from Pil Gu’s teacher that he’s not in class. She finds him at the arcade and Yong Sik was surprised to find out she was Pil Gu’s mom. Pil Gu reasons out that Yong Sik got him a LOT of coins to play with so how can he not stay and play. So instead of getting angry at Pil Gu, she instead calls Yong Sik a strange man – again – and this time calls him an ahjussi. (LOL) On their way home, Pil Gu defends Yong Sik and tells Dong Baek he took his side when he fought with the other kids.

Yong Sik tries to stop Captain Byun from giving an interview about the Joker. Captain Byun tells him that Mr. No filed the complaint against him.

Dong Baek finds out that Jong Ryeol is shooting at Pil Gu’s school. Pil Gu’s team need to practice for tomorrow’s match but Jong Ryeol is shooting on their field. Out of frustration, Pil Gu approaches Jong Ryeol and asks him if he owns the land and if he will take responsibility if they lose the match. Dong Baek arrives and Jong Ryeol was surprised to see her. They used to have a relationship. At a restaurant, Dong Baek confesses that Pil Gu is Jong Ryeol’s son.

Yong Sik goes to Mrs. No for consultation about the lawsuit. In the course of their conversation she figures out that Yong Sik is talking about her husband. Mrs. No introduces herself and tells Yong Sik the case is closed. But she asks him why he took the money for Dong Baek’s sake.

Jong Ryeol is flustered to find out that he’s Pil Gu’s father. Dong Baek tells him not to worry because she will not ask anything from him. She even pretends to be married for him not to jump to any conclusions.

Jae Young’s husband took a lot of money but doesn’t tell her where he used it. She later finds out he gave it to Hyang Mi. So as usual the neighborhood ahjummas goes to Camellia to confront her. Dong Baek arrives and takes Hyang Mi’s side. Yong Sik tries to interfere but he doesn’t have the power to control all the ahjummas. They accuse her of crazy things like being a flirt but Dong Baek stand firm that she didn’t to anything wrong. But then she starts to cry that agitates the ahjummas even more. Pil Gu arrives and protects his mom while Yong Sik seems amused at what he did.

At dinner, Pil Gu tells his mom that he has to protect her because everyone hates her. That he’s the only one who likes her.

Jong Ryeol asks Seung Yeob about Pil Gu but Seung Yeob questions his intentions. He thought Jong Ryeol wants to enter politics.

Yong Sik gets surprised when Dong Baek gave her peanuts for free. She said it’s thanks for taking Pil Gu’s side but warns him not to take Pil Gu back to the arcade. Dong Baek goes for a walk but Yong Sik follows her. He tells her he doesn’t know why but he’s worried to see her walk on her own. She says he doesn’t want his pity and tells him not to follow him. He said he’s worried she might cry on her own but she thinks he’s just acting strange.

Dong Baek and Yong Sik goes inside the train station. She reveals she wants to change jobs. It took a lot of convincing but Dong Baek eventually tells him that she wants to work as a lost and found clerk. She continues to say that people always apologize to her but never said thank you to her. People always thank the lost and found clerk that’s why she wants to be in that position. Yong Sik felt something for her but he’s not quite sure what it is.

Yong Sik advises Dong Baek to be mean to the neighbors as well, just like they way they’re treating her. She said she just wants to ignore them and be nice to them even though she gets upset with them. This frustrates Yong Sik a lot. He tells her she’s pretty but she makes him angry.

On their way back, Dong Baek keeps declining Yong Sik’s advances. She says they’re nothing to each other so they don’t have to be nice. Yong Sik asks her to become friends and she accepts. At the bar, Jong Ryeol sees them together and assumes Yong Sik is her husband. Dong Baek holds Yong Sik’s hand to lead him away but they bump into Mr. No who asks if they were dating. And Yong Sik asks too “Are we dating?”.

Earlier that day, Yong Sik was correcting the scribbles on the walls of Camellia. While Dong Baek and Yong Sik was talking, the camera zooms in a writing on the wall that says “Dong Baek, you also need to stop being a joke.”

***************************************************

Hyo Jin’s character is very different from her roles on her other dramas like It’s Okay, That’s Love and The Producers where she played a strong woman. In this drama she is this pretty and feminine woman who can’t stand up for herself and she’s kind of a push over. She does speak for herself at times but still in a very gentle way. She’s the girl that men like Yong Sik would fall for because he seems like the knight in shining armor and she’s the damsel in distress. That’s it! She’s a damsel in distress! Her actions doesn’t sit well with the feminist in me so I’m very much hoping for her character growth to go in a better direction. LOL. But I love where the story is going because it tackles social issues which I think is very prevalent in Korea – The stigma of being a single mom.

Highly Anticipated Drama now on NETFLIX! Vagabond Episode 1 Recap

In South Africa, a Russian and a Korean are on standby, camouflaged, waiting for their target to arrive. The Russian keeps on throwing racial slurs at the Korean calling him “yellow monkey”. The Russian shoots the wheel of the vehicle and it stops. A woman alights from the vehicle, scarf blown by the wind revealing her face. The Korean man is surprised to see her. He is being ordered to take her out, but he hesitates. Then, bang!

In 2006, Cha Dal Gun is in the Korean Action Center Audition. He introduces himself and tries to showcase his martial arts skills. He starts to bleed after a stunt, and his nephew, Hoon, starts to cry. He consoles him and reveals that his brother passed away that’s why he’s taking care of him. He got the job and starts shooting action scenes while caring for his nephew.

Six years later…

Jessica Lee, Director of John & Mark Asia, presents Eagle Fighter to possible buyers.

Cha Dal Gun quits his job as an actor (stuntman?) and is now a cab driver. A fellow stuntman friend of his tries to convince him to come back but he declines worrying about his nephew’s future if he dies on the job. However, Hoon finds out he quit his job. Hoon tells him that he doesn’t want to go to his Morocco trip anymore.

In Morocco, Go Hae Ri is part of the event organizers but arrives late for the meeting. When her colleagues left the room, she takes a call and introduces herself as Elsa (her call sign?) and retrieves a memory card from a frame.

Jessica is on the edge because the deal for Tiger Fighter is falling through. Their competitor, Dynamic System, is getting favored by the buyers. She talks to Michael and reminds him that if they lose the deal they will all be dead.

Hoon is still mad but Dal Gun still has no idea why he’s acting up. Hoon tells him that he regrets living with him and he snaps back and tells Hoon to go back to the orphanage. Dal Gun seems to regret what he said and tries to convince Hoon to eat but he left without saying anything.

In Portugal, Michael is running away from people following him but he gets away by taking a streetcar. He tries to call Incheon International Airport to report that flight B357 to Morocco will crash but the line was cut and his phone gets hacked. He throws his phone out of the car to avoid getting traced.

The Taekwondo team prepares to check in to their flight. Hoon contemplates about calling his uncle and decides to leave him a voicemail.

Michael gets to a payphone and calls Incheon International Airport and finally speaks to a woman. He asks her to stop the flight to Morocco because it’s going to crash. The conversation was cut short when he got attacked by a mysterious woman. The fire alarm suddenly went off and employees start to evacuate. The woman starts to evacuate too but someone stabs her in the neck with a needle. She talks to her boss on her cellphone and reports the suspicious phone call but she starts having seizures.

People board the plane to Morocco. Michael shoots himself in the head with the help of the mysterious woman who attacked him. (To make it look like suicide.)

Hae Ri arrives at a port in Morocco and coincidentally meets a colleague who tells her that their boss was caught by NIS for smuggling drugs to Korea. He asks her what she did in Portugal so she makes up a story of her boyfriend cheating on her.

Hae Ri reports to her handler that she had arrived from Lisbon. She also tells the handler that it was suicide with a pistol. She takes a coat out of her luggage that looks exactly like the one worn by Michael’s killer. (Did she really kill him?)

In the middle of the flight to Morocco, a mysterious guy rigs an oxygen tank to blow up and takes control of the pilot’s control panel. The plane starts losing altitude. Hoon tries to send a message to his uncle saying “I love you.” but he collapses before sending it. The plane crashes to the ground.

Dal Gun finds out from the news that the plane crashed and sees Hoon’s name on the list of deceased. He starts to cry with grief and can’t seem to believe what’s going on.

Prime Minister Hong reports to the President that B357 is an aircraft made by Dynamic Systems and the crash is most likely caused by aircraft failure. The prime minister advises the President not to take an official stand until the investigation results are out. The president apologizes to the people for the protecting the citizens and says his condolences at the press conference.

Dal Gun watches a video Hoon uploaded in the cloud. Hoon apologized for getting angry and reveals that he found out Dal Gun quit the action center. Hoon reminds him of his dream of becoming a director and tells him that he’s the coolest when he’s doing stunts. Dal Gun cries in grief.

Angry people, the family of the deceased, mobs the President’s press conference. Jessica smiles as she leaves the scene. (Did she plan everything? It would make sense that Michael found out because he works for Jessica.) In Portugal, Jessica attends Michael’s funeral and says goodbye saying he proved himself by saving them all.

Dal Gun and the other family members arrives in Morocco to attend the mass funeral. Hae Ri and her colleague pick them up at the airport. In the restroom, Dal Gun saw the guy captured in Hoon’s video and remembers the scar in his face. He is surprised to see him alive and runs to follow him. In an alley, the guy tries to shoot Dal Gun but he fights him off. The guy corners him and caught him in a choke-hold. Dal Gun grabs they guy’s shirt revealing a tattoo in his chest. He asks the guy how come he survived the crash and accuses him of crashing the plane. Dal Gun frees himself from the choke-hold but the guy hits him in the head and escapes. Dal Gun climbs to the roof, chases the guy, then throws himself in front of the guy’s car. To shake Dal Gun off, the guy drives the car but Dal Gun successfully enters the front seat. The car crashes and Dal Gun flies out of the car through the windshield allowing the guy to successfully escape.

Dal Gun survives the crash and cries in frustration.

Wow! Those were amazing action scenes by Lee Seung Gi! I know he’s already a great actor and good at action scenes too but he did Jackie Chan-like stunts here. They were crazy! I hope to see more action scenes from him and of course from Suzy.

Hwang Yong Shik finds his ‘Diana’- When the Camellia Blooms Episode 1 Recap

The Woman with the Germanium Bracelet

A cop arrives at a crime scene and he approaches a stretcher with a person covered with white sheet. The person’s hand escapes the white sheet and revealed to be wearing a germanium bracelet.

Trucks arrive in a busy street of Ongsan and starts to prepare “Camellia” to open for business. The neighborhood ahjummas* and ahjussis** thinks it’s a flower shop and are curious of who the owner is when a young, attractive woman shows up and they are all surprised by her beauty. She brings a baby carrier and they all assume she’s a mom and a newlywed. Her name is Dong Baek.

Frustrated of Yong Sik, Deok Soon visits the neighborhood shaman. Deok Soon wonders if his life would have been different if she didn’t send him to do an errand at the bank where he single-handedly stopped a robbery. Among his good deeds would be catching a motorcycle thief, a pickpocket, and a murderer. He received so many awards that they had to appoint him as a policeman. (He’s a man with a lot of brawn, but apparently not much of a brain. LOL.) The shaman prophesied that Yong Sik (rabbit) will meet a dragon in the east and points at Dong Baek’s direction.

Dong Baek answers the neighborhood ahjumma’s curiosities and reveals she’s opening a bar – not a flower shop, and that she’s a single mom who’s never been married.

Six years later, Camellia has become the neighborhood’s favorite bar. Yong Sik returns to Ongsan after getting demoted for assaulting a criminal in public. Pil Gu, Dong Baek’s son, has grown into a strong young man who protects his mother from those who disrespects her.

Jong Ryul and Jessica films a reality show with their baby. Their real life is different from what they show on TV, though. They no longer live together and Jessica is only concerned with her body and her SNS followers.

Someone lurks in the dark and seems to be following Dong Baek.

Ongsan, home of Korea’s delicious marinated crabs, used to be known for notorious serial killer called Joker. Yong Sik decides to catch him.

At the library, Yong Sik meets Dong Baek for the first time. He falls in love with her right away – in his words “Just because she’s pretty.” He tries to approach her but fails miserably – he stutters and says the silliest things which made her think he’s a weirdo. He follows her into a law office and assumes she’s a lawyer.

Dong Baek talks to Ja Yong (Mr. No’s wife) to consult about Mr. No not paying his debt. Ja Yong is reminded of the time when her husband brought her an eye cream (He gave her the 20 ml freebie) and she assumes that Dongbaek got the 100ml one. Ja Yong introduces herself as Mr. No’s wife and starts nitpicking on the way Dong Baek speaks. She asks about her husband frequently visiting Dong Baek’s bar and tells her to be good to him and smile for him since it’s her job. Dong Baek says it’s not her job to smile.

Mr. No visits the precinct and was introduced to Yong Sik. He invites them to Camellia for drinks.

Chan Sook greets Dong Baek in the street and praises her for earning a lot of money in a sarcastic way. Then she assumes that she’s doing something disgraceful that’s why a lot of people go to her bar. She told Dong Baek not to embarrass her child but she claps back and responds that she’s never done anything to embarrass her child.

Yong Sik doesn’t want to go to Camellia because he thought it was a hostess bar. He somehow went there because there was nowhere else to go. (It’s a town where almost everyone is related to each other.) Yong Sik assumes that Hyang Mi was a hostess but finds out that she only joins their table because she likes to drink. Dong Baek arrives at the bar and was surprised that his ‘Diana’ is Queen of Yongsan. He still falls in love with her even though she’s not a lawyer and not fluent in English.

Mr. No demands free peanuts and forces Dong Baek to drink with him. He touches her and tells her that if she drinks he will not raise the rent for a year. (He’s the landlord.) She drinks it and asks Mr. No to keep his word but tells him that he doesn’t have the right to touch her and her smile is not for sale. Yong Sik falls in love with her all over again.

Mr. No declines to pay for the peanuts but Yong Sik forces him to pay by twisting his arm and taking his wallet. (At least he didn’t hit him. Haha!) He runs back to Dong Baek to give the payment for peanuts and tells her that she’s not just pretty but also cool. He asks her if it’s okay for him to visit her every day. She thought he’s strange.

The cop who arrived at the crime scene at the opening scene is revealed to be Young Sik and the dead person in the stretcher is wearing a bracelet similar to Dong Baek’s. Yong Sik lifts the white sheet from the dead body and cries.
