Tanya, the Merciful High Priestess – Arthdal Chronicles Episode 16 Recap

Tanya’s tears fell after seeing Moongtae kill the tribe leaders. While Hae Mihol recognizes the eyes of a king in Tagon’s.

Hae Mihol accosts Taealha to ask her if Tagon promised to protect the secret of the bronze and she confirms he did. Hae Mihol says that Tagon changed and Taealha claps back and asks him who would not change after what happened. She blames him and Asa Ron for ruining everything and that she pities Tagon whose heart has been broken.

Taealha tells Tanya to behead Asa Mot and everyone involved and cut the feet of their families. Tanya declines but Taealha threatens to kill the Wahans. She also tells Tanya that she will be saving thousand more people from dying if she follows her orders. They will now have to rule with fear.

Saya swears to assist Tagon and tells him that he’s been waiting for this for all those years he was locked up in the tower. (Seriously. Saya’s character is twisted and scary. Will it be him against Eunseom in the end? Is it really good twin vs bad twin?)

Tanya wants to go back to Iark along with the Wahans reasoning that she’s done enough. Of course Taealha doesn’t let her. Tanya blames them of the change in Moongtae but Taealha tells her that he only learned his lesson quick. Taealha also asks her if her people would even want to go back to Iark.

Saya talks Tanya out of leaving and reminds her why she joined them in the first place. He tells her that wanting to save her people, no matter how honorable, is a form of greed. She took down Asa Ron and obtained power to fulfill her own greed. He tells her not be a coward and take responsibility for her own actions. (Which makes sense although the way he said it is soooo twisted I cringed.) Saya continues to tell her to get more power then go up against Tagon since the union now trusts her. She asks him to call the Wahans. (Saya thought he succeeded in convincing her.)

Tanya listens to her people’s stories and seeing them happy seems bittersweet. She brings up going back to Iark and tells them she was ordered to have innocent people killed and argues that’s not what they were taught. It triggers Moongtae and he tells everyone that each are on their own and declares he will follow whatever Tagon orders him. He leaves.

Tanya goes to the room of fire to pray but Saya arrives. He gives her a backhug. (Normally I would be excited but even Tanya looked disgusted with him.) He tells her about the dreams he had about her and that he wants to be someone special to her as well. He asks her to trust him and follow him, at least for now. Saya gives her a necklace which only reminded her of Eunseom.

Tanya addresses Arthdal citizens and relays Airuju’s decisions about the trial. She didn’t follow exactly as Taealha ordered her. She tells the people that Airuju’s decision was to lock up Asa Sakan and have everyone else be torn into pieces. Saya and Taealha was so surprised and the people were in uproar. But she adds that she suggested to Airuju to behead some and cut the feet of the others so that they can continue to serve the gods. (This way it would seem as if she actually talked to the god herself.) The people celebrates her, thanks her and praises her for saving their lives. Taealha and Tagon was surprised with the people’s response. (She is a threat to them now. Tagon is a tyrant so naturally the people will look for someone with compassion to lead them.)

Back in her room, Tanya looks back and realizes that Taealha might be right. Does she like power? Tagon, Saya and Taealha arrives in her room and the latter starts with asking her what she was thinking. Tanya tells her that she’s learning, since she has no power and no land to call her own. She tells Tagon that she decided to claim the hearts of the people as her land. (Oooops! After Tagon had failed so miserably, he’s not gonna take that lying down.) Tagon tells her that he also stands on the hears of the people just in a different name. And he appreciates the balance between them – he who instills fear and Tanya the merciful high priestess. On their way out, Tagon tells Yangcha to guard Tanya.

Mugwang’s death saddens the Daekan warriors specially Mubaek. Word also spread that Mugwang was punished because he was disrespectful to Tanya. Mubaek sees Tanya in the room of fire and informs her that her curse came true. He asks her to perform ollimsani (ritual to guide the spirit to the gods) to undo her curse and she agrees.

Before leaving, Mubaek tells her about three babies being born at the same time – the bell, mirror and sword who will end the world. He also reveals that he believes she’s the bell, Saya the mirror and Eunseom the sword. Since their birth, fear turned to anger, then sadness and then to cruelty. He lost hope until he saw Kanmoreu (a mystical horse who used to belong to Aramun Haesulla) and the byeoldaya. Since then he’s been acting as if possessed and did not see what’s going on with his brother, Mugwang. He believes that the three together will bring a new and better world and asks Tanya if she can make it happen. (Saya heard all this and I wonder what he makes of it.)

Saya gives the order to engrave Tagon’s achievements into the walls of the great shrine. One of his achievements is suppressing the Ago tribe by making them doubt their own. Ago tribe used to be three separate clans that Inaishingi brought together but now they sell each other as slaves because of Tagon.

Ipsaeng shares this story to Eunseom who thinks differently. Eunseom thinks that instead of selling each other, they could have released slaves of other clans and the other clans do the same because they’re grateful. His ideas were shot down by Ipsaeng right away because they don’t seem realistic. (He does sound naive.) Ipsaeng repeats his mantra – the people who betray lives and the betrayed dies. (He said this many times already and done it to Eunseom many times too but they’re still together. I’m getting a feeling he might be Inaishingi.)

As they were about to get sold off, Myo Clan of Ago Tribe arrives and saves them. Back in Myo clan’s fortress, Eunseom witnesses their waterfall dance which reminds him of Tanya. Mirusol (the woman who led the rescue) tells them to leave after eating which surprises Eunseom. He even tells Ipsaeng that he’s wrong because there are people willing to help others and calls him the bad guy. Ipsaeng is still not convinced and tells him not to trust anyone from Ago tribe even himself. I’m afraid to say this but this time Ipsaeng was right because Myo clan decides to trade them for the chief’s daughter.

Ipsaeng reveals that he’s the direct heir of Tae clan and shows a mark on his chest. (Wow. Is it really true? If it is then I knew it!) He offers to go to Tae clan and release the Myo chief’s daughter himself. He even tells them that he will leave his beloved friend behind, Eunseom, as proof that he will do as promised. (Eunseom’s reaction was gold. He obviously didn’t believe him.) Eunseom still chose to believe him though. Because he wants it to end. He gives the Momo tribe’s token to him that surprised Ipsaeng. He says if he doesn’t return it means everything he learned was a lie and that he’s a dead man anyway who wouldn’t have a use for the token.

Ipsaeng leaves and succeeds in running away. He laughs at them for believing him but then he starts crying thinking about Eunseom. Back in Myo clan’s camp, Eunseom dreams about Moongtae killing the tribe leaders. Then he was dragged out by the Myo clan because Ipsaeng did not return. Eunseom fights them off the tells them that they all have the same sin – weakness – and that they should get punished together. But then, Ipsaeng came back and reveals that he can’t save the chief’s daughter. He tells his story that the current leader, his uncle, killed his parents and sold him off as slave. When Eunseom asked him why he came back, he tells him that he’s gotten weak because of him. (Awwww, bromance!) But then, true to his own colors, Ipsaeng started spewing lies again telling Myo clan that Eunseom is Inaishingi. (I’m officially in love with this guy. His possibilities are endless!) Left with no choice, Eunseom goes along with Ipsaeng’s lead. Ipsaeng guides him into telling the tribe about his earlier idea of having the Ago tribe save other clans’ slaves without asking for anything in return and even using the Momo tribe’s god as reference that whoever doesn’t follow will die a painful death. An elder of the Myo clan says he was lying but Eunseom remembers the waterfall dance and executes it perfectly.

Momo tribe crosses paths with the Daekan Warriors again who informed them that Eunseom had fallen inside the Ago tribe’s territory. Myo clans council decides to perform the judgment of the waterfall (they will drop Eunseom from the top of the waterfall and if he survives meaning he’s telling the truth). Xabara seeks an audience with the Myo clan’s chief but finds out that he’s already performing the judgment of the waterfall. Xabara hurries downstream and helps Eunseom.

The story is getting better but I’m surprised the ratings are dropping in South Korea. I hope to see more of this drama. Fighting Arthdal Chronicles!

The Beginning of Tagon’s Tyranny – Arthdal Chronicles Episode 15 Recap

Tagon, who always killed people that sees the color of his blood, was exposed as an igutu in front of Arthdal’s tribe leaders. He counts 27 people and starts killing them off. Asa Ron escapes.

The attempt on Taealha’s life fails. She tells Hae Tuak to inform the Daekan warriors that a coup has started and goes off to find Tagon.

The attempt on Tanya’s life also fails. Saya was poisoned but manages to kill the assassin before passing out. Realizing she’s surrounded by enemies, Tanya misleads them into thinking they escaped through the window while they remain hidden inside her room.

Asa Ron’s soldiers block Taealha but she fights them off. (She’s really good with swords and knives.) Tagon fights with the children of Shahati on his way back and survives. Tagon and Taealha finds each other and hugs. (I really felt their love was genuine. They’re a match made in heaven since they both want power as much as they want each other.) He tells her that he killed the tribe leaders. They decide it doesn’t matter anymore if people like them or not and they agree to wipe out those that are left.

Moongtae finds Asa Ron in the forest and pretends to be on his side and follows him.

Tagon hopes Tanya is alive. Arthdal will soon turn into ruins and having no god on top of that is too sad for him. Taealha finds him sweet. (Really?) The Daekan warriors arrive along with the guards. Tagon leads them back to the great shrine but gives Yangcha a different mission.

Asa Mot tells Asa Yon that their plan failed and tells him to flee. She will remain since she is Tagon’s wife.

Tagon arrives at the Great Shrine and forces his way in, killing soldiers and priests. Black Tongue finds Tanya and attempts to kill her but Yangcha arrives in time to save her. Moongtae brings Asa Ron to the great shrine and Tagon kills him. Asa Mot was brought in and attempts to kill Tagon using a poisonous snake. Harim arrives to heal Tagon and notices he’s an igutu. He tries to hide what he found but Taealha found him suspicious. She tells Mugwang to follow him and kill him if he acts suspiciously.

Harim tells his family to get ready to leave however Mugwang catches them and kills Harim and his wife. Mugwang was about to kill Chaeeun however Nunbyeol’s powers were awakened. Ryangpung senses something was wrong and tells them all to run away. But Nunbyeol says “It’s too late” and kills the other guards. Mugwang remembers Tanya’s prophecies – that the last thing he will hear is “It’s too late.” and someone will rip his heart out. – And all that becomes true as Nunbyeol uses her bare hands to rip his heart out of his chest. As Nunbyeol was about to attack Ryanpung, she collapses. And he collapses too. (An LOL moment. Mugwang’s death is proof that Tanya’s powers are real. I wonder what Tagon will do about that? I also wonder what will happen to Nunbyeol and Chaeeun now that their secret has been revealed.)

Eunseom and Ipsaeng are being held as captives by Ago tribe and being prepared to be sold off. Dalsae worries about Eunseom and decides to go find him.

All of the White Mountain tribe including Asa Sakan were brought in for the trial and the citizens are horrified. They find it wrong to treat them this way since they serve the gods.

Tagon interrogates Moongtae why he brought in Asa Ron with a gag in his mouth. He reveals that Asa Ron keeps saying Tagon is an Igutu and Moongtae will die for bringing him in. Tagon wonders why he still brought him in even though he knows he will die and Moongtae tells him he’s dead anyways. He says that people who used to be his friends will kill him if he doesn’t find power. So Tagon decides to keep him.

Tagon calls all the leaders and announces that Asa Ron initiated a coup. The tribe leaders speak up and questions why he had to capture the family of the leaders he killed. They reason out that the leaders only responded to Asa Ron’s summons without actually knowing what’s going on. Moongtae kills the leaders which signals the beginning of Tagon’s tyranny.

Is it the end of Tagon? – Arthdal Chronicles Episode 14 Recap

The Daekan warriors are still on Eunseom’s trail.

In Arthdal, a wild bull suddenly came to the market and attacks Harim but Nunbyeol (the only female Neanthal alive) fought it off – unintentionally showing her strength in public. Harim blocked Nunbyeol’s powers in order for people not to notice. However, since she’s still growing, the blocks seem to have been removed. Harim tells Chaeeun to prepare to block them again.

Tagon enjoys his power and his new title as god. Hae Mihol greets him and pretends to have been on his side all along. He believes he’s irreplaceable because he’s the only one who knows the secret of the Bronze. He kneels before him revealing that he knows Tagon wants to be King and he can help him since he knows how Kingdoms work having grown up in one. He also warns Tagon that going to the White Peak mountain is dangerous because Asa Ron will not back down easily. He dismissed these concerns because he already took care of them way in advance.

Mubaek and his troops were sent to White Peak mountain to keep tabs on Asa Ron. All of White Mountain are heavily guarded. Tagon addresses his army that their last hurdle is to finish gohamsani without a hitch. He reveals to them that he doesn’t like killing. (Yet justifies them!) He also confirmed he has a son with Taealha that surprised the warriors.(Taealha is too young to be Saya’s mother.)

Saya introduces himself to everyone as Tagon’s son and assists Tanya with her duties. The Wahan’s are surprised that he looked exactly like Eunseom. He takes Tanya’s hand around town in pretense that it’s proper custom. (But it’s not! LOL. He just wanted to hold her hand.)

Asa Ron mobilizes Children of Shahati and the Black Tongue. (Asa Ron still have cards to play.)

Taealha shows Tagon their new flag and tell her vision of unifying the entire continent, countries named after them, and people will sing songs about them. She declares she will wield a sword again to make their dreams into a reality. Tagon says he doesn’t want to be a tyrant that’s why he chose the long and hard road to reach their goals. He says he was able to avoid bloodbath within the union because Taealha didn’t betray him. (They celebrate their freedom too soon.)

Eunseom and Ipsaeng runs from a wild bear. Eunseom attacks the bear to save Ipsaeng but he betrays him again by cutting him and leaving him behind. (Gosh, Ipsaeng really is a pain in the ass. He’s a survivor who only lives for himself and he’s trying to convince Eunseom to be the same.) As he was about to get eaten by the bear, the Neanthals arrived and the wild bear stopped (It was scared of them even thought they were just standing there.) Eunseom recognizes them as Neanthals and thanked them. He introduces himself as igutu showing his blood and Rottip smells him. (LOL.) He recognizes him as Asa Hon and Ragaz’s son but he doesn’t tell him thinking it’s meaningless so they just leave. Eunseom seemed sad. (He’s always been the outcast. I think he’s still longing to be accepted. The Wahan’s were good to him but still treated him differently.)

The Daekan warriors find Ipsaeng and catches him but Eunseom was nearby and heard what happened. Ipsaeng agrees to lead the warriors to Olmadae. Xabara finds Goldu in the forest and had him executed for enslaving Sateunik and causing his death. She asks his minions to tell her what they know about Eunseom.

Eunseom saves Ipsaeng (Again!) The warriors gave them a chase but they couldn’t go any further because they fell inside Ago Tribe’s territory. Ipsaeng asks Eunseom why he kept saving him even after everything he did. (He enumerated them all. At least he knows what he did. Why do I have a feeling he didn’t lie about being the son of Ago tribe’s chief?) Eunseom answers him and tells him he needed him as his subordinate because he needed power to save his people. Being brought up by Wahans who believe they’re all equal, he doesn’t know how to get a subordinate so he just treated Ipsaeng well but he realized now that’s not working. Ipsaeng asks him who he’s fighting with and was surprised by Eunseom’s answer. He wants to fight with Arthdal itself. Ipsaeng calls him a nutjob. (LOL.) They take a small boat downstream but fell asleep. They wake up and find themselves in the middle of the stream and the Ago tribe in front of them.

Asa Ron comes back from White Peak mountain and continues his preparations of gohamsani. (And for whatever plot he’s cooking.) Taealha prepares her gifts while Tanya prepares to host the ritual. Yeolseon tells Tagon the possibility of using iron instead of bronze. Tagon agrees to test it even though he’s not confident since Hae Tribe hasn’t figured it out.

Tagon visits his father’s grave. On his way, he remembers his past when his father attempted to kill him. It was his father, Sanung’s idea to make him Aramun Haesulla and tells Tagon to never let anyone find out the color of his blood. Sanung killed Tagon’s friend including his family because he saw his blood. Since then Tagon killed everyone who saw it right away to protect that person’s family. He swore to become Aramun Haesulla so that their deaths will not be in vain. He decides to annihilate an entire species, his own kind, just to keep this promise. In tears, Tagon asks for Sanung’s blessing. Asa Ron surprises him with his sudden arrival. They talk about how Tagon killed his own father but then the Union leaders arrived and heard everything. Asa Ron says that Tanya is fake and Taealha is his accomplice that’s why they’ll be dead by morning.

Black Tongue (as assassin of the Children of Shahiti attacked Tagon from behind with a poisoned knife. Everyone was surprised to see his purple blood and they were scared of him. He says it would have been nice to have known that all his efforts will be in vain, since he tried to hard (To avoid spilling innocent blood.) He’s sorry to everyone who died because of him and tells everyone there that he didn’t want to sit on a bloody throne. They brought this on themselves. He decides to kill them all.

A bloodbath is coming. I felt sad that Tagon failed the way he did. I imagined him succeeding because he sincerely wanted to avoid spilling innocent blood. I wonder what happens next.

Erika Karata – Intense Tribe Leader in Arthdal Chronicles

Arthdal Chronicles introduces new character, Karika, on the thirteenth episode of the three-part series that premiered last night.

The character is portrayed by an up-and-coming Japanese actress Erika Karata. You will notice an innocent-looking beauty when you see her but you will be surprised by how well she portrays a brutal and intense tribe leader in Arthdal Chronicles. She speaks Momo tribe’s language with such ease you will not think it’s just made-up. She’s one of the reasons to look forward to the next episode.

Watch the show and see for yourself!

Arthdal Chronicles is back! Episode 13 Recap

Read my Mid-Series thoughts on this drama here.

To start Part 3: The Prelude To All Legends, Arthdal chronicles started with a brief flashback/recap of their own for Part 1: The Children of Prophecy and Part 2: The Sky Turning Inside Out, Rising Land. I also observed a new intro for the show.

Episode 12 ended with Eunseom’s attempt to escape the mines and Tanya locating Asa Sin’s star bell. The series picks up at the cave where Tanya announces herself as the Great Mother. Tealha greets her first as the leader of Hae Tribe and asks her when Aramun Haesulla will return. In response, Tanya calls Tagon before her and proclaims him as Aramun Haesulla’s second coming. (Tagon and Taealha’s plan succeeds for now. With Tanya they can control the people and remove Asa Ron from power. This show borrowed a plot from the Bible as they used the second coming of a god who will come to unite them.) Funny bit : Do you remember Tanya’s prophecy that someone will rip Mugwang’s heart out under the crescent moon? Now that Tanya is really the Great Mother, his comrades teases him and tells him to not go outside during the crescent moon and he looked a bit scared of the thought. Tagon and Tanya exits the cave and was greeted by cheers of the people outside celebrating them. Tanya is overwhelmed by the cheers but happy inside that she has a chance to rescue Eunseom.

In Doldambul, Daekan troops arrive looking for Olmadae while Eunseom and company is in the process of their attempt to escape. The Daekan warrior approaches their bodies and notices their slight movements. Realizing they were caught, Eunseom tells his buddies to make a run for it and they fight their way out. Dalsae and company takes advantage of the situation and releases all the slaves and joins the fight. Dalsae tells Eunseom to take Olmadae and leave as a way for him to make up for what he did before. Syeoreujagin escapes the mines but regrets leaving without his jewels. Dalsae got himself caught to help the other escape.

Eunseom and Olmadae was able to hide from their seekers by going underwater. Olmadae tells Eunseom to give up and leave him but Eunseom says he will not give up anyone from now on.

Tanya tries to compose herself in front of the leaders of Arthdal and tells them to prepare for gohamsani (a ritual to celebrate special events) in celebration of the Wahans arrival in Arthdal. She tells Asa Ron to go to the White Peak mountain to prepare for it. Asa Ron agrees even though he’s aware it’s only a ploy to take over the Great Shrine. Tagon calls the White Peak Mountain’s Hearts (used to be secret society who believes that Aramun Haesulla was an igutu – child of Saram and Neanthal) into the Great Shrine to help Tanya since she’s new to the role.

Tanya demands for Tagon and Taealha to keep their end of the bargain and release all Wahans from slavery including the ones sent to the mines. Tagon tells her that the soldiers are already on the move and that she doesn’t even need his permission for it anymore. (Tanya still doesn’t know how much power she actually holds.) Mubaek arrives and greets Tanya but she recognizes him who led the destruction of her village. She gets confused because Chae-eun also told her Mubaek saved Eunseom. Tagon tells Tanya to order him herself and she did while everyone laughed at the way she did it. (She needs more training, I guess. Even though she held some kind of authority in their tribe, it was very different from the ways of Saram.) Mubaek was surprised to see Saya in the room as he looks exactly like Eunseom and Tanya noticed the look he gave Saya. Tagon tells her of Mubaek’s great contribution by bringing the Byeoldaya from Iark.

Eunseom decides to go back to the mines to save Dalsae. They realize that Ipsaeng is missing. (If you don’t remember, Ipsaeng is the first one who thought of escaping the mines. Apparently, he was too scared to fight so he decided to pretend dead while the other fought. LOL.) Eunseom and Badoru found Ipsaeng just outside the mines and he decides to help them save Dalsae and Syeoreujagin for the sake of his jewels. (What a funny guy!) After their escape. Ipsaeng asks Syeoreujagin where the jewels are but he claims he doesn’t have it so he leaves him behind. Eunseom asks why the jewels are so important to him and Syeoreujagin tells him that he gains power. With the jewels he can buy slaves, armies and scribes who will follow him. His definition of power is by the number of people who follow you because you bought them. Syeoreujagin aks Eunseom why he saved him. He responded and said that if he survives this and in the future gets to buy his army – to remember that a filthy igutu saved his life.

Eunseom and Ipsaeng goes to Jubinol to notify Sateunik’s widow of what happened. The Daekan warriors finds out and heads there to find Olmadae.

Tanya asks Mubaek why he saved Eunseom. Mubaek tells her the night is short to tell such a long story since a lot has happened since then. Tanya tells Mubaek about Saya who in turn tells Yang-Cha (he also saw Eunseom’s face before) to keep it quiet to avoid chaos.

All the Wahans arrive at the Great Shrine including Moongtae (Wahan who betrayed Dalsae and Eunseom). Tanya happily greets them and tells them that the ones sent to the mines will arrive soon. (Of course, Moongtae is unhappy about it. I really really hope he doesn’t go against the Wahans in the future.)

Mugwang agonizes over Tanya’s prophecies about him. He knows that Mubaek brought the byeoldaya and that Tagon planned everything, he made himself feel better by thinking that everything was just a trick. He tells Mubaek that he will be the one to kill Tanya once she’s no longer useful to them.

Tanya catches up with her father, Yeolseon, who told her he’s happy with what he’s doing at the fortress of fire – studying and inventing. Tanya tells Yeolseon that Eunseom is alive and that he has a benetbot (twin, not necessarily by blood) named Saya. She tells him to pretend he doesn’t know Saya and to tell all Wahans to do the same.

Euseom and Ipsaeng meets with Momo tribe and it turns out Ipsaeng can’t speak their language that well. (Another LOL.) Eunseom tells Sateunik’s wife, Tapien, of his demise and she grieves. Karika (Tapien calls her Xabara, she must be their leader or something) was with Tapien and she gave them a token of gratitude. Ipsaeng suggests they sell it and split the money but Eunseom declines so he stole it instead and leaves him behind. The guards attack Xabara in the middle of the night but she escapes with her son. Eunseom who woke up in the commotion followed Xabara to save her and the baby. Eunseom finds Ipsaeng who got scared and returns the token. Ipsaeng remembers that Xabara is the leader of the Momo tribe. The Daekan warriors arrives at Jubinol but Xabara, along with her army, arrives too and tells them to leave.

What happens next is super intense. Xabara and her army swears to repay Eunseom’s kindness. She doesn’t know his name but he only remembers that he has purple lips and he has a mark on his back. They made his mark as their flag and makes an oath by their blood to repay him. This oath will carry on to the next generation if they can’t fulfill it in their time.

So what do we know about Momo tribe so far? I think they will be a big help to Eunseom in the future. And I liked the new character, Xabara. She’s pretty and I liked her voice. She spoke Momo tribe’s language as if it’s real and with conviction, like she’s a real leader. I found out that she’s a Japanese actress named Erika Karata. I look forward to seeing more of her in this series. Can’t wait for Episode 14!!!

Final Thoughts on Designated Survivor: 60 Days

Summary:

A bombing kills the President of South Korea along with all the high ranking officials which left Park Mu Jin as acting president for 60 days until the next presidential election. He is a “good man” with no political ambition but he does his best to perform his duties.

***************************

This political thriller have exciting plot twists and interesting characters. The cast was amazing and played their characters well. Ji Jin Hee was definitely the perfect actor for the role of Park Mu Jin but he’s not my favorite in this ensemble. Son Seok Koo took all my attention with his awesome portrayal of Cha Young Jin. He’s the cold yet compassionate, awkwardly romantic, and intense Presidential Secretary. I’m not going to mention everyone on this blog but one of the reasons why I enjoyed this show is because of the chemistry of all the characters – bromance (Park Mu Jin & Cha Young Jin, Cha Young Jin & Kim Nam Wook), office love triangle (Cha Young Jin – Jung Soo Jung – Kim Nam Wook), and one sided love (Seo Ji Won to Han Na Kyung).

Some of the plot are predictable (I haven’t seen the original version but I was able to guess some parts of the story.) I truly believed that Park Mu Jin is a good man but they were not able to convince me that he is the best presidential candidate (He seemed weak to me.) There were a lot of subplots that were interesting though such as the romance between Cha Young Jin and Jung Soo Jung and Yoon Chan Kyung’s gay son. Most of the characters in this drama have their own stories and each complete the whole.

I will not end this review without mentioning Lee Joon Hyuk who played Oh Young Seok – daebak! He embodies the character of a good looking politician that young people will totes vote for. It was so obvious that this character was set to fail but I found myself rooting for him at times (Maybe because he’s hot? LOL.) I think that for me to be able to understand this character’s motivation, they should have shown what happened at the Battle of Baengnyeong in a flashback. Without it, to me, he was just an ambitious man who made a deal with the devil.

Oh, well. These are my thoughts. What do you think? I give this drama a 6.5 / 10. I definitely enjoyed it but it fell short of my expectations. I recommend this drama to those who love political thrillers because if you watch it looking for romance you will be very disappointed. Enjoy watching!

Pres. Park orders Sec. Han to be arrested. The secretaries were all surprised especially Sec. Cha who trusted him(They had a mentor-mentee relationship). Sec. Cha asks Pres. Park why he did things alone. Pres. Park apologizes and said he would understand if they leave. Sec. Cha then tells him that he is there to protect his person even his views and beliefs.

Tae-Ik leaves South Korea. The new president has been elected. (They didn’t reveal who won.) Pres. Park leaves the Blue House (for now).

Three years later, Park Mu Jin goes camping with his family. He went back to academia but he declines an offer from Stanford.

An aspiring presidential candidate invites Cha Young Jin to his campaign but he declines. He instead went looking for his team. (This part was so satisfying.) He finds Kim Nam Wook distributing fliers to support the enactment of Discrimination Act. Park Soo Kyo was being abused by some chaebol (i think, not sure) but resigns after seeing Cha and Kim – he joins them. The three went to Jung Soo Jung who also quit her job to join them. Cha and Jung reveals that they’re dating. (Yaaas!)

The four reunites with Park Mu Jin. Cha Young Jin once again asks him to run for the next presidential election. The other three offered their support as well. Park Mu Jin smiles at them. THE END!!!

Sigh! The ending was satisfying regardless. Hope you watch all the episodes too!

Recap – Designated Survivor: 60 Days Episode 15

Episode 15 – The Trap

Gen. Lee Gwan Muk arrests Gen. Eun Hee Jung. Pres. Park was able to convince him because he prioritizes the country’s law and order above his honor.

Jung Han Mo & Agent Han interrogates Gen. Eun Hee Jung and Ji Yoon Bae to find out who the VIP is and to find out where Mr. Kim is. They find out that neither actually met VIP in person and only ever talked to Mr. Kim.

Yoon Chan Kyung’s relationship with Mr. Kim was revealed to BH by an anonymous tip.

It was revealed to the public that BH concealed the failed coup d’etat. Pres. Park’s success in quelling the rebellion might become his administration’s demerit because people thinks BH disregarded their right to know.

Pres. Park confronts Yoon Chan Kyung about his relationship with Mr. Kim. He urges her to reveal the truth but she instead challenged Pres. Park to do the open investigation claiming she is innocent. Pres. Park suggests for her to help set up a trap to capture Mr. Kim in order to prove her innocence. NIS successfully apprehends Mr. Kim. Kim Nam Wook reveals this to the public in order to change public opinion.

Sec. Cha fails to convince Sec. Han to join Pres. Park’s campaign. Sec. Han speaks to Pres. Park telling him that nobody comes out of the Blue House without becoming a monster. Pres. Park tells him that he’s someone he knows who didn’t become a monster. Sec. Han changes his mind and joins his campaign.

Pres. Park decides to meet with Mr. Kim before he resigns as acting president. Mr. Kim admits to Pres. Park that he is the VIP. He also reveals that everything was successful because Pres. Park was there before and after the attack. Pres. Park helped complete the attack.

It was mentioned in a conversation between Mr. Kim and Oh Yeong Seok that Pres. Park had something to do with the attack as well so this reveal didn’t surprise me anymore. I also had a feeling that Mr. Kim is VIP so this wasn’t a surprise either. Sigh. I think everything was so predictable.

Recap – Designated Survivor: 60 Days Episode 14

Episode 14 – The Outcome

Agent Han & Agent Seo finds out that Mr. Kim is the VIP’s liaison by tapping Gen. Eun’s mobile phone.

Pres. Park decides to let go of the Discrimination Act. He gains political advantage but loses one vote (the movie director)

Agent Han decides to infiltrate Mr. Kim’s office to access the safe in an effort to stop Oh Yeong-Seok from announcing his candidacy. She successfully accessed the safe but Tae-Ik knocked her out and abducted her. Agent Han wakes up locked inside a car with a bomb in a shopping mall parking lot but was able to escape.

Agent Han delivers evidence to Pres Park against Oh Yeong-Seok. And Oh Yeong-Seok did not announce his candidacy. He decides to join Gen. Eun’s coup d’etat.

To quell the rebel forces, Pres. Park’s reaches out to Gen Lee Gwan-Mook and offers to reinstate him as Joint Chief of Staff. Gen Lee did not want to help Pres Park because he humiliated him twice – for relieving him of his post and putting him on house arrest as a person of interest on the bombing. Pres. Park tells him that if he declines, he will use the navy and airforce against the army taking advantage of the rift between the three forces. That didn’t work.

Agent Han stops Oh Yeong-Seok on the road and tries to apprehend him. As he was about to surrender, his bodyguard, comrade and friend Kim Chang-min shoots him in the head and commits suicide.
